Dying to know you is a very
emotional book about a guy falling in love with a girl, but then having to
overcome some milestones. It is written by Aidan Chambers, who has already won
a few awards. The book is set in the present and it is a romance story. In this
book, Aidan Chambers has created a portrait of a young man discovering his own
voice. He has constructed a love story that is not just about the heart, but
also about the mind since you need to think about some things that happen in
the book before you can understand them.
In this story, A boy named Karl falls in love with a girl called
Fiorella. She likes him too, but she wants him to write a letter in which he
reveals his true self, before dating him. Karl isn’t convinced that he is good
enough to do this, so he finds Fiorella’s favourite author and begs him to help
him. He is so unsecure since he has a disease called Dyslexia. Anyway, the writer
assists on the condition that Karl agrees to a series of interviews, so that
the letter will be based on an accurate portrait of Karl. The letter was
effective in the end, although it has some unexpected effects on Karl, Fiorella
and the writer.
I liked reading this book since it was suspense but had a happy end. I
would recommend this book to readers of all ages, as long as they are okay with
a bit of a harder vocabulary. I think the book would be appropriate for readers
of 11-16 years.
